Relevance to Generation Z: Amanda Gorman is a source of inspiration for all - especially those who struggle with a learning disability. Her character and perseverance should be a source of motivation for all Gen-Zers going after their dreams as she is a representative of a GEN Zer who is successful and paving the way for herself as a young Black woman who struggles with a speech impediment.
Before she’d even finished reading her poem at Joe Biden’s inauguration, she’d stolen the show. Overnight, Amanda Gorman became a household name. However, Amanda’s rise to fame was not an easy path to walk. A 22-year old Los Angeles native, Amanda was born premature, which led to an auditory processing disorder that made it difficult for her to understand speech, resulting in her speech impediment, which she still struggles with today. Now, with nationwide notoriety, Amanda plans on publishing two books this fall and even is teasing a Presidential run in 2036. Amanda paints a strong picture of someone who was able to overcome their obstacles and create a career and path forward.
