The ongoing BLM protests that demand systemic change and policies addressing a broken criminal justice system are continuously being met with violent counteraction and increasing apathy from Republican elected officials. Holding extremists accountable in addition to policymakers' responses to such terrorist incidents is imperative in completely reshaping the way we approach and interact with our institutions of law.
On Thursday, September 3, around 8:00 PM, a car drove through a cluster of protestors who demonstrating in the Times Square area of New York City. Several attendees captured the violent scene on video and posted the footage across social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter.
The videos show a dark sedan honking at protestors several times before deciding to accelerate and leave bunches of people screaming in its wake. Although local media outlets at the scene were able to confirm mostly everyone escaped unscathed, at least one protestor reported injuries.
The protest, which focused on raising awareness surrounding the death of Daniel Prude, a Black man who died in police custody while suffering gross abuse and mistreatment, was met with a counterprotest filled with right-wing and MAGA hat-wearing extremists. Despite the heavy rain and the incident with the sedan, the protest carried on throughout the night.
