Relevance to Generation Z:
Many Gen-Zers have grown to love the Jordan Brand, and are interested in learning more about the product and culture behind the shoe. This articles dives deeper into inequality within the sneaker market, and why it matters.
Being a female sneaker fan is bittersweet. Highsnobiety, a publication featuring fashion op-eds and more, recently published a piece on sneaker equality, and I found it profoundly fascinating as a sneaker junky, myself.
The SNKRS app from Nike is my third most used app, according to my weekly screen time report, but whenever a "female" sneaker is released, I find the sizing wrong, the sneaker model much less desirable than the male counterpart, and the marketing budget appears to be a fraction of what it is for male sneaker drops.
The Instagram post that inspired the Highsnobiety article is linked, and it's a graphic that emphasizes the need for size inclusivity in the sneaker industry. There is nothing more frustrating than being on the Nike website, excitedly anticipating a new Air Jordan drop, and the only size available being a men's 13. It's simply not fair.
It's important female sneaker junkies unite, and work together to improve sizing equality and increase the budget for female sneaker marketing campaigns. Together, we can make a difference in the sneaker market.
