Relevance to Gen-Z: Death is scary, and something we don't often discuss or enjoy thinking about. COVID has brought death into our peripheral, and for a school assignment I had to write a short blurb regarding mortality. I thought I would share.
The Hardwick article Is there a duty to die? is truly riveting. Thinking about our own mortality is tough, and most of the time when death, specifically my future death, floats into my mind- I tend to change the internal dialogue as fast as I can. It's scary- no one wants to think about their death, mostly because the after-thought is unknown. No one can predict what you feel during or after death. We have no idea what happens to you, metaphorically speaking. Is heaven real? Are you simply nothing? Is there an after-life?
My question is rooted in the notion of curiosity. I think everyone is afraid of death because the post death future is wildly unknown, and humans are, generally speaking, very afraid of unforseable circumstances. But what if we knew what happened after death. How would that effect our own morality and mortality. Would that encourage death? Discourage it even more?
