Oprah Faces Backlash

Oprah Winfrey, one of America's beloved Hollywood stars, has received backlash for hosting a difficult, racial conversation on “The Oprah Conversation.” Oprah is well known for her 15-year television show, “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, and her current Apple TV+ series, “The Oprah Conversation.” She is one of the wealthiest women in the entertainment industry; according to Forbes, her net worth is approximately $2.6 billion.

In a recent episode of “The Oprah Conversation”, Oprah invited former NFL player and race activist Emmanuel Acho to stand beside her and respond to non-black individuals’ questions about racism and white privilege.

In response to an audience member, Oprah said, “There are white people who are not as powerful as the system of white people -- the caste system that’s been put in place. But they still, no matter where they are on the rung or ladder of success, they still have their whiteness.”

This conversation was both difficult and controversial, sparking a twitter thread that, surprisingly, was not in Oprah’s favor. Oprah is being called out as a “fraud” because she has inherently profited off “white-America” for her entire career.

Her response to questions from those who are not African-American is viewed by many as “racist” and “untrue.” Gun rights activist JT Lewis said, “How did Oprah make 2.6 billion dollars if America is so racist?”

Oprah has yet to come out with a statement in response to the intense backlash.
