The charges against Derek Chauvin have been updated to second-degree murder from previously having been declared third-degree murder and manslaughter. Three other police officers, Thomas Lane, Alexander Kueng, and Tou Thao, who allowed Chauvin to kneel on Floyd’s neck for nine minutes until his death, were charged with aiding and abetting murder. Additionally, it has been proven through city data that Minneapolis police coerce black people at a rate of seven times more than that of white people.
