Why is this article important to you and Generation Z?:
Tik Tok is predominantly used by Generation Z and has created shifts in cultural conversations for Gen Z as it has become a massive social media platform. Since the executive order, these creators have been wondering what the fate of Tik Tok will be.
Last month, Trump issued an executive order banning Tik Tok, a popular social media platform, because it is owned by a Beijing-based company called ByteDance. This action has been faced with controversy because many believe it was a strictly political decision to silence opposition.
After the executive order was issued, Microsoft put an offer to buy the fast-growing app. To many, this seemed opportunistic. Tik Tok desperately needed a buyer, and as one of the fasted growing companies, this would be a very profitable deal for Microsoft.
Oracle announced that it will be stepping in as Tik Tok’s business partner in the U.S. in order to satisfy Trump’s conditions. The nature of the agreement is unknown to the public, but it does not appear that Oracle will be buying the popular app outright.
