Relevance to Generation Z: A majority of Republicans do not believe that President Joe Biden's election was legitimate as was found by a recent poll. Much of the basis for this disbelief in election validity is the result of conspiracy theories of fraudulent voting as well as an overall manipulation of votes. This is not the truth, the election was legitimate, and it as important as ever to differentiate between truths and lies as such disbelief in election validity led to the Capitol insurrection.
A poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos found that 55% of individuals who identify as Republicans do not believe that President Joe Biden’s election was legitimate and that it was the result of illegal votes or a manipulation of votes. Moreover, 60% of individuals who identify as Republicans believe that Joe Biden stole the election from Donald Trump. Given this, many Republicans in Congress are currently supporting legislation that places restrictions on voting and which makes voting more difficult, although laws requiring identification in order to vote do not heighten confidence regarding the legitimacy of elections.
