Why is this article important to you and Generation Z?
George Floyd's estate is to receive $27 million in settlement money after a unanimous vote from the Minneapolis city council. Although no sum of money can restore a human life, the Floyd family plans to use this money to uplift underfunded black communities. This is particularly important as Generation Z is a generation that is at the forefront of political and social conversations regarding social issues.
The Minneapolis city council decided in a unanimous vote to settle a lawsuit with the family of George Floyd and pay $27 million to his estate. Philonise Floyd, George Floyd’s brother, said of the settlement, "I thank the state of Minnesota for getting this settlement taken care of,” however stressing the fact that “if I could get him back, I would give all of this back.”
Jury selection is currently underway in preparation for the trial of the former police officer accused of killing Floyd in May 2020. Derek Chauvin faces multiple charges, including third-degree murder.
